Steve Jones - CEO

In 2002 Steve co-founded Plexal Group as Managing Director. Steve’s primary role is business performance across the group, setting long term strategic direction and establishing new business relationships.

Steve began his professional engineering career in 1984, joining Esso Australia on a four year Process Instrument Technician Apprenticeship. Steve then worked for Esso for another three years in a variety of roles to do with instrument design, supervision and commissioning in offshore and onshore applications.

In 1991 Steve moved to Perth, Western Australia, for a challenging project for Woodside that required the safeguarding PLC to be changed out without production loss.

From 1993 to 2002 Steve worked in a series of high-level roles for companies delivering engineering services to Woodside, Brunei Shell Petroleum, Esso and Chevron, gaining experience in Australia, Brunei, Malaysia and Thailand on large instrumentation and control system upgrades.


Len Bunn - Executive Director

Bachelor of Electrical Engineering; University of Western Australia, 1986

In 2002 Len co-founded Plexal Group. As Executive Director with a primary focus on the Australian business unit, he continues to assist in a technical role with assessing opportunities to optimise and guide conceptual designs of control and safeguarding systems.

Len commenced his professional engineering career in 1987, working for five years as a DCS applications and contract engineer on several significant oil and gas, petrochemical and minerals processing control upgrades and development projects.

In 1991 Len transferred to the UK for two years to lead the migration/ development of DCS application software for a major petrochemical control system upgrade project.

Returning to Perth in 1993, Len worked in project management and specialist DCS / PLC / SCADA roles for a variety of large control and data acquisition upgrade projects in the oil and gas industry, including Woodside, Chevron, and ExxonMobil.


Dean Paton - Executive Director

Bachelor of Electrical and Control Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce; University of Western Australia, 1994.

In 2004 Dean joined Plexal Group and quickly moved into the role of Operations Manager and was pivotal in sustaining a 400% growth period in 18 months.

Dean was elected to the Board as Executive Director in June, 2006 and led the establishment of our Thailand office.

Since commencing his career in 1994, Dean gained valuable experience in all aspects of the conceptual definition, design, estimation, procurement, supervision, installation and commissioning of multi-disciplined and control system upgrade projects for the oil/ gas and mining industries.

During 2003, Dean gained extensive site experience with implementing a hot cutover of the control and safeguarding systems for a large oil and gas offshore complex.

Dean has diverse process and industry experience, having worked with clients such as BHP Billiton, Woodside, Agility, ARC Energy, Alinta and Chevron.


Garret Botje - Commercial Manager

Bachelor of Business, Edith Cowan University. Double Major in Accounting and Finance; CPA - Australian Society of CPAs

Garret joined Plexal Group in early 2006 as our Commercial Manager and assisted with the development and costings of our Thailand business plan and budget.

Garret continues in the role to consolidate our group’s financial performance and support our Australian and Thailand Company Accountants and administration staff with reporting to the Board.

Garret commenced his professional career in 1989 with Argyle Diamond Mines gaining valuable accounting experience in a large commercial venture. From 1997 to 2004 Garret progressed into senior roles such as business analyst and financial controller for both private and government organisations. During 2004 to 2006 Garret was the Financial and Administration Manager for a major capital works program for a new railway.


Steve Chomyc - General Manager, Australia

Joining Plexal Group as our Operations Manager in 2006 and was promoted to General Manager in 2008, Steve is responsible for all project delivery and support from our Australian operations.

Steve began his professional career in 1986, joining Bailey Controls (now ABB) as an associate engineer in the Metals and Mining Industry Group.

Steve has held both technical and leadership roles in the provision of large-scale DCS and PIMS systems, including technology management, customer support and engineering services to customers in major power generation, pulp & paper, mining and minerals, petrochemical, and food processing industries.

In 1994, Steve was appointed Manager of Elsag Bailey’s Customer Support Services Business in Central Canada, with financial performance responsibility and leadership of a team of 25 technical specialists. Steve worked for 12 months as a Systems Engineer on the protective systems at the OPG Pickering Nuclear Power Station in Ontario, Canada.

In 2002, Steve relocated with ABB to Perth, WA, and quickly progressed to the position of Engineering Manager for ABB’s WA control systems business serving the Oil & Gas and Mining sectors. Steve was promoted to National Operations Manager for ABB’s Process Automation Division in 2004 and oversaw the execution of all automation projects carried-out for Australian customers by a team of 50+ engineers.


Montri Chancharoonpong - General Manager, Thailand

Bachelor of Engineering; King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, 1994. Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Ramkhamhaeng University, November 2000.

Montri joined Plexal Group in 2009 as the General Manager for our Thailand Business Unit; he is responsible for all aspects project delivery and support for the Thailand Office.

In 1994 Montri started his engineering career as a Project Engineer at Toyo-Thai (an EPC company in Thailand). In 1997 he moved to one of the largest Refineries in Rayong (Alliance Refinery) holding various positions within the organisation ranging from Instrument Engineer and Project Manager to Instrument / Electrical Superintendent for the entire Refinery. Montri then moved to Chevron Thailand in 2007 where he worked on Major Projects in a Team Leadership role finally moving to the Maintenance and Reliability Division before joining Plexal Group’s Thailand Business Unit.

Montri brings extensive expertise in Oil & Gas as well as valuable experience from working for various Operating Companies in the South East Asian Region.
